I was recently laid off from my H-1B role in Dallas as part of a large-scale layoff and now have only 45 days left in my grace period to secure a new H-1B transfer.

I have 15 years of experience in finance, audit, investment banking, and equity research, with previous roles at Big Four.

From a legal standpoint, what are my best options to maintain status and secure a transfer in such a tight timeframe? Are there risks I should be aware of, or strategies to maximize my chances given my H-1B constraints?

My question: once the new I-797 is approved, can I travel to India for a week with my old H-1B visa still valid until July? Is it safe to travel, and what should I say if the consulate or CBP asks for salary slips or proof of employment, since I’ll have just started the new job?

I’m currently based in India and working for a service company. I’ve received an offer to relocate to Texas on a contract with a salary of $100,000 per year. At present, my spouse and I earn a combined 65 LPA in India, and we own our home. I’m 37 years old with two young children—one in second grade and one in nursery.

Given the current visa environment and my family’s situation, would it be advisable to move to the U.S. at this stage in my life? From an immigration and long-term stability perspective, is this a practical decision, or would the risks outweigh the potential benefits?
